Inauguration Day 2009

Well, we thought we'd capture the spirit of the day by watching the inauguration on T.V. I thought the day was inspiring and was hoping the kids (Jazzy and Jack) would also too; being that they are half black and it would be a memory that would last a lifetime for them. The historic moment lasted only a moment, guess I'll have to buy a newspaper for them to remember.

A Couple Of Things That Happened Over The Holidays

Jackson got his Bobcat Badge at his first Pack Meeting. Still waiting to turn the pin upright!



Jazzy got an award in the Reflections Contest for her "Wow" painting. (All that drawing on Zac's back has paid off.)

On the fourth day of Christmas my true love gave to me...

...four Colling Birds.

The four Colling Birds ("colly" is an old word for black) stand for the four evangelists--Matthew, Mark, Luke and John or the four gospels they wrote.

On the third day of Christmas my true love gave to me...

...three French Hens.

The three French Hens symbolize the three members of the Godhead: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost. Alternatively, they represent the three virtues: faith, hope and love.

On the second day of Christmas my true love gave to me...

...two Turtledoves.

These turtledove represent the Old Testament and the New Testament.

On the first day of Christmas my true love gave to me...

Some early traditions hold that this song was used as a teaching tool to teach young people of various denominations in the Christian faith. The Partridge in the Pear Tree is Jesus on the cross. The bird imagery can also be seen as symbolic of Christ's teachings "as a hen doth gather her brood under her wings." (See Luke 13:34). So instead of sharing a treat on your front porch and then running off I thought this would be a fun way to share the "Twelve days of Christmas."
